Germelshausen Coffeehouse & Bakery bringing the best of SL music to Chilbo

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

If you walk by the charming adobe building in northwest Madhupak, you’ll likely be drawn in by the comfortable looking seating area, the delectable edibles displayed in the bakery, or by the friendly face of MS Hawker herself, on barista duty at the espresso bar.  Germelshausen Coffeehouse and Bakery is a relaxing comfortable hangout whether you’re a Chilbo local or a weary traveler from the grid. If you come by on a Tuesday or Thursday, you might be surprised to suddenly hear some great live music…but where is it coming from? Here’s a hint: JOIN US ON THE ROOF!

AMFORTE Clarity rocking the roof at The Haus

AMFORTE Clarity rocking the roof at The Haus

Every week, the rooftop at Germelshausen AKA “The Haus” has been drawing big crowds to see great live music in a realistic comfortable setting right here in Chilbo. Both performers and patrons enjoy the comfy cozy atmosphere, quality dances, and the friendly vibe created by your enthusiastic hostess, MS Hawker. The Haus has hosted popular acts  strum Diesel, PM Bookmite, Alex Parsons, Kelvinblue Oh, Engrama and AMFORTE Clarity – all of which will definitely be back in the future.

All week long, Germeshausen is a great place to meet new friends and old, have a cuppa and a nice chat. The Haus also has a new webcafe, and is Tiny Friendly!

Artists scheduled for the first week of October include Kelvinblue Oh, and Avatar Quinzet. Get notified of upcoming events (including something very special and fun planned for the end of October!), and the release of MS’s upcoming line of delicious scripted bakery goods,  join The Haus’ SL Group, or subscribe list by touching one of the boards downstairs by the bar or up on the roof.

Alleara Snoodle and The Passionate Redheads

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

From Chilbo correspondent Kristine Kristan:

Chilbo’s own Alleara Snoodle and her team The Passionate Redheads have won the SL Spirit of Relay Award for 2009! She and her team collected more than 2.4 MILLION Lindens (over $9,000 USD)in the Relay for Life!!

Mission Statement from the team:

The Passionate Redheads Team for Relay for Life

Our team members are comprised of people from all over the world. Anyone in need of support and compassion may join. Those who cannot participate in fund raisers for any reason are always welcome to do as much or as little as they can, with a promise that they will never be judged. Some can build, some can entertain, some of us can create clothing or jewelry. Some can hardly bear to participate; it’s just too painful.

We are cancer patients and loved ones of cancer victims. A few have to leave for weeks at a time due to treatment or a death in the family. They are always welcomed home with arms wide open.

The Passionate Redheads team is here for anyone needing to feel a part of Relay for Life. We have given families and survivors a way to fight back, a feeling of empowerment in the face of helplessness.

We do not judge who is doing the best they can manage; people join us seeking hope and encouragement in a dark hour. We strive to take care of each other and any other team needing assistance. I am extremely proud to say that we have succeeded.

This the True Spirit of Relay for Life.

Yours in Service,

Sabine McGettigan, Captain
Passionate Redheads Team, Relay for Life 2009

Relay for Life is a grid wide fundraiser to support the mission of the American Cancer Society.

All of Chilbo wishes to congratulate Alleara and the Passionate Redheads team!

The award display, and Alleara’s own message to the Chilbo community can be visited in the Town Hall Plaza.

Fourth of July Fireworks Preview

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Chilbo Group members have all seen the notice from Kristine Kristan about the Fourth of July celebration. I was in the sandbox with Kristine and Monarchy Republic as they were making plans for the party. Kristine contacted Alleara Snoodle to find out where she could get the best fireworks on the grid. Here are a couple of photos of what she came back with to whet your appetite for the party this Saturday.

Come to Noru in Greater Chilbo, Watch Great Videos

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Some time ago I settled down in Greater Chilbo, in the far away Noru region. We (Violetta Leshelle and I, Olando Decosta) tried to civilize the place, and we even have a cinema there, next to a deli.

In the cinema we feature videos about social media and their impact on the society, the economy and businesses. It is a non-profit venture, and I feel inspired by the social media library in Chilbo. In consider our place in Noru to be an in-world extension of my blog MixedRealities.

I started out with Clay Shirky (from the documentary Us Now). Please come and have a look!
(Just enter, and click the screen)

We’d like to organize discussions about social media in Noru, and I hope the video can be inspiring.

K2 Gallery Comes To Chilbo

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009
K2 Gallery next to Kristine Kristan's house

K2 Gallery next to Kristine Kristan's house

Chilbo resident Kristine Kristan has opened K2 Gallery presenting original works of her own and of other artists. Kristine is an artist working in fused glass and that experience is evident in her Second Life stained glass and etched glass works.

Kristine is interested in presenting works of artists that make their work available through sites such as etsy.com. So a Second Life resident that finds a piece they like at K2 gallery might also obtain a complementary piece for their real life home or office. If you would like to keep up with the news at K2 Gallery, Kristine has created a Subscribe-o-Matic Group so that you do not have to use one of your 25 SL Group slots, simply touch the sign at the gallery to join the group.

Kristine is a fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. The Cubs are off to a fast start in the 2009 season, so the fans are encouraged this year. Kristine is also a cat lover. She says that she hopes to create some avant-garde videos starring cats to show at K2 Gallery just as soon as her cats learn to take direction. This, of course, could be a very long term project.

If you would like to visit K2 Gallery, Kristine is located near the Chilbo Museum complex at Madhupak/170/234/91.

Mystery Plane Crash Near Noru Project (Greater Chilbo)

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Violetta Leshelle and Olando7 Decosta are building a living&meeting space in the far away Noru sim. The land is part of Greater Chilbo.

Right now you will find at Noru a box with the invitation for a French language virtual law seminar in Second Life, and if that is not weird enough, also a plane wreck.

The plane crashed nearby the main building without causing fatalities. No bodies were found and it remains a mystery who the pilots were.

Maybe you can find out? Visit the crash scene and tell the true story of what happened! More pictures are available on Flickr
