Tomkin Euler Creates Video of Chilbo in Reaction Grid

Chilbo resident Tomkin Euler posted a short machinima on YouTube of a recent visit to Reaction Grid. The video starts in the Chilbo sim on RG, and then moves to the Caerleon art sims to check out the work of Thoth Jantzen.

great video and for sure some places i want to check out!

nicely done (would have loved for the UI to be hidden – ctrl alt f1 – i get distracted easily) =)

First machinima, Tomkin? Nice work !! And it had a cliffhanger, we never did find out exactly what Thoth has hanging off his foot. (Maybe it is better that we don’t know. Some things are better left unknown.)

Thanks for the comments.. and advice.

I had assumed that I could crop the video in editing to eliminate the UI, to frame the shots, but couldn’t find that feature in my editing program (ULead Video Studio 8.. came with an old video camera..).

I liked how the live chat narrated the piece, in lieu of voices.. I used paint to clip the chat from a frame still into small bitmaps, 200-300 by 30-50 pixels, to use as overlays, a Ulead feature..

then I was just playing with all the titling and text animation options, scene transition toys.. Hee hee..

I didn’t notice Thoth’s “ground strap” until about the 10-th time through in the editing process.. :0)

Whee! Tomkin..

hmm, i think it has to be pretty advanced vid editing software to do a clipping mask. if you were importing to Flash (no reason to do that, i just know Flash) you could edit like that

lol on the ground strap. i once did a vid for elearning that went to over 50,000 users and did not realize that in the three days of filming, i had my flight feather on and you could see it in the vid!

have fun doing more vids, you have a wonderful eye for it =)
