As a new Chilbo resident and land owner, one thing that has particular importance to me is the possibility of reclaiming abandoned parcels. Perhaps there is a way for LL to set up a reclamation process within the partnership, so members can effectively help LL identify abandoned land, and help Chilbo gain access to parcels that would otherwise hinder the development and expansion of the community. This benefits both sides much like the way the Adopt-a-Highway programs work, as mentioned in other blog discussions.

Also, with regard to Hanja, it would be nice if we request to have some sort of welcoming presence, be it a nice landmark sign pointing them to Chilbo, or something to that effect when we are not having welcoming events there, (if LL can make this possible for us to do so). The way it is now, is confusing to newbies who end up there and see nothing but green and a couple of boards. In return, I think it is pertinent to have infrastructure support. The lovely sidewalks and sense of small-town life is what drew me here, and I think LL would greatly benefit from Chilbo's efforts to expand this autonomous inworld environment as a model of mainland community.

When some entity comes offering me something, I look at several things before I respond.
Who is this?
Linden Labs (LL) is a niche for profit, MassiveMultiPlayerOnlineRolePlayingGame (MMPORPG) provider.
I'm still a newbie, with limited working experience with Linden Labs (LL) beyond "Thanks for buying in,
 have fun."
What do I know about them?
Usual landlord/tenant stories.
Although they are essentially an IT service provider, there are no Service Level Agreements and little
recourse for environmental problems such as lag, inventory losses to due to asset server problems.
Lack of a real inworld judicial system to handle behavioral problems & disputes.

What are they offering me?
"improve the Mainland"?,
"create a rich and innovative overall Second Life® experience for all"?,
"compelling user experiences"?,
What do those vague statements mean?
Does it mean they would be more responsive to environmental lag issues?
Does this mean they would be more responsive to tickets?
Does this mean they will provide some/all of the road/sidewalk infrastructure?

Why are they making me this offer?
Are they debating whether to upgrade the host servers or make other performance improvements.
Are they wondering how actively involved the tier paying residents are?

Whats in it for them?

Whats in it for me?
"improve the Mainland"?,
"create a rich and innovative overall Second Life® experience for all"?,
"compelling user experiences"?,

What are the trade offs?

What is it going to cost me?
Everything has a cost.

Since they are making the offer, it's up to them to answer those questions before we make a counter offer.

is it possible (or should we even) distill the draft down to an outline that is more accessable to some fokks. We have had very few weigh in, even those who I have spoken to, and mean to.

Even just a list of what we want/what we offer.

And again, I think we need not offer so much in regards to Hanja. Chilbo should not be undertaking "First Hour" or even first week type stuff. We are more "Second Month".

Which is not to say we are not newbie friendly, we are to a fault. If I had a linden for every time I asked "Welcome to Chilbo, can I help you with anything", I was asked about sex or money....sigh. But other times, I have found myself giving spontaneous tours or basic build lessons so it's worth all the bad paths crossed.

I am just so wary of the whole Welcome Center thing...on many different levels, including the displacement of the regulars there. It occured to me, as I was looking at completely blank First Land owner profiles: "at least the crew up in Hanja are there...doing something, in fact they are their own little community." I know that many of us see that vast empty land, and just drool with possibility. And they are earnest drools and valid possibility, but can we really say we have the extra human resources to undertake this? I would feel better emphasizing the things that Chilbo Community has to offer* as a model community and have the Lab pass on partnership, than to undertake something that at this time we can't really give our everything to, to get them to agree to partnership, and then fall short. I think that would be worse for Chilbo than to not get the partnership at all.

*If the Lab really is serious about wanting to improve the mainland then they should be making a proposal *to Chilbo*. We are proud mainland citizens, and the founders and all that have followed have created something amazing. Not just a network of paths and a beautiful place to be, but a network of beautiful and brilliant and OPEN people. People who are willing to help others that want a better Second Life.

What a nice, calm snapshot from Hanja. I dropped by there today for a few minutes. Here's a shot of a more typical group, with my acquaintance shouting at me:

I'd bet Pepe the newbie has no idea where all those strange voices and noises are coming from:
